Capturing the Cobalt Blue Sky Background

The dramatic deep blue background sky in the top photo was captured 20 minutes after sunset. A similar background for a shot of the front elevation (bottom photo) could be achieved by shooting 20 minutes before sunrise. [Note that it would not have been possible to replicate the preferred background at the same time of day for both exterior views without extensive bracketing and photo editing.] 

The practice point here is to understand the importance of determining well in advance the optimum time of day and camera position necessary to obtain the desired results for any given assignment.
